Week of August 28th- September 1st

This week our theme was "We are Family". We focused on learning the letter Ll, the number 1, the shape of a heart and the color red. On Monday, we had our first whole school fire drill and the kiddos did great with the loud noise of the alarm and following the directions. We read "The Family Book". We started creating a list of Ll words that we know. We created pictures of what our families look like and started sharing photos of what are families look like and presenting to the whole class. The kiddos did a great job using a nice and loud presenter voice to share with their friends. The kids  On Tuesday, we shared more family photos and talked about the differences between all of our families. We read the story "Just Me and My Mom". The kiddos shared what they like to do when it is just them and mom. We worked on our first page of our alphabet book that we are going to be making this school year. We made the page L is for letters. On Wednesday, we read "We Love Our Dad". The kids got to share what their favorite thing to do with dad is. I got to celebrate my big birthday with my 10 new little friends! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR HELPING MAKE IT SO SPECIAL! I am beyond blessed to have such wonderful kiddos and families in my classroom this year! We talked about how we are all a part of different families and go home to different families at night but we are a part of a bigger family at the end of the day, God's family. We talked about what makes being a part of God's family so special. On Thursday, we read "Franklin Says I Love You". We made predictions on how what we thought Franklin was going to get his mother without it being a fancy present based on what we like to give our moms to show them that we love them. They even guess right! During center time, we did our first writing and drawing project of the year. I had the kiddos tell me what they liked to do with their families and I wrote the sentence while they drew the pictures. Throughout this year, we are going to work on our illustration matching the sentence, adding detail to our pictures and growing from Mrs. Nikki writing the sentences to them tracing the words on their own. It will be fun to watch their art work and sentences writing grow. On Friday, we had our second fun and fitness Friday! We took a walk up to the Capitol lawn and got a chance to have our P.E. class up there! We took the parachute up to the Capitol with us and got to play a couple of different games with it. We finished P.E. with a long walk around the Capitol and stopping to look at the fountains and all of the beauty that is surrounds our Capitol and school! What a great week that we had. Please make sure that you are looking in your child's folder at their new behavior chart as there are a couple of updates that had been added! Thank you! Enjoy the photos from the week! I will see you all on Tuesday!

I sent home a half sheet of paper and an all about me activity for you and your child to work on filling out together. This is for our theme next week so that the class can continue to get to know each other. Please fill out and return as soon as possible so your child is able to share with their friends. You can add photos or just color pictures, whatever is easiest for you and your family! :)

On Thursday and Friday, I also sent home a Scholastic book catalog. This is something you are more than welcome to look at but do not have to order from. There is a little QR code on the front page of the catalog and this will take you to the Scholastic website. It will ask you to put the zip code in and it will bring up a list of schools here in Jefferson City. Once you have found St. Peter Interparish, it will bring up a list of teacher and you will click on my name (Gutierrez, Nikki). The website has even more books than the catalog. The books will be shipped right here to school if you were to order anything!
